Celina Kalluk - Mother

Celina Kalluk is an Inuit-Canadian artist, born in Resolute Bay, Nunavut. Celina is an accomplished artist, writer, actor, and illustrator. Renowned for her practice of Inuit throat singing, she performs at major events all over the world. Her first book, ‘Sweetest Kulu’ published by Inhabit Media, was named Huffington Post’s Best Bedtime Book in 2014. Celina portrays the Mother in The Other Ones, desperate to keep 
her daughter from moving beyond her reach.

Elizabeth Ryan - Daughter

Elizabeth Ryan is a writer, voice actor, and educator living in Iqaluit, Nunavut. As a teacher, Elizabeth understands the need for quality media in the Inuktitut language. She is able to assist with this need in her work as a voice actor, exploring different roles within the film and television industry. Elizabeth plays the Daughter, struggling to balance her need for independence and her mother’s rules.

Vinnie Karetak - Creature

Vincent “Vinnie” Karetak was born in Arviat, NU, and has been living in Iqaluit, NU, for the past 20 years. Karetak is an actor for film, TV and the stage, as well as a drum dancer and emcee. He is a strong presence at Nunavut’s festivals, events and concerts, and has a tireless commitment to Inuit language and culture and champions Inuit performing arts. Vinnie plays the Creature, a Qallupilluq who has made his way inland. The Creature’s mind has twisted with age, and he is only too happy to delight in the old ways once again. 

Louise Flaherty - Grandmother

Louise grew up in Clyde River, Nunavut. Early on, Louise was fortunate to be surrounded by great storytellers. In 2005, Louise co-founded Inhabit Media Inc., an independent publishing house dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Inuit knowledge and values, and the Inuktitut language. Inhabit Media has since published dozens of books and Inuktitut resources that are used in classrooms throughout Nunavut. Louise plays the Grandmother, who’s lessons the family will need to remember.
